Astrobar RAM maximum Capacity? Can it be upgraded???

Astrobar RAM maximum Capacity? Can it be upgraded???
« on: January 14, 2018, 05:42:14 am »
Hi,

I have as many other astronomers in this forum, some equipment that requires many software and drivers to operate.

Astrobar only has 2Gb of RAM to run the Win10 Operating System, plus all the software and drivers.

One of my present setups, run:
  • MaxPilot (or Voyager recently testing)
  • The SkyX
  • PHD2
  • FocusMax
  • ASCOM drivers for:
    • CDD camera with 16200 ship including integrated external Filter wheel
    • guiding CCD
    • SX AO
    • Focuser Controller
    • Dew Controller
    • Mount

Is the Astrobar able to handle all the above SW and drivers (including 6 USB, which are 2 USB/Serial connections)?

Can the Astrobar motherboard RAM be upgraded?
Some of this tiny CPU boards do have a bus connector for future upgrades, who knows QHY could plan a memory upgrade for it.

Regards,
Joao Vaz Martins

Hello,

The Astrobar should be can handle all the above SW and drivers, and it have 8XUSB2.0 port, includes 6 software controllable USB ports and 2 serial connections.

and it can not upgraded motherboard now,but QHY plan to design second generation Astrobar.

Best Regards

Hello,

The ASTROBAR using the ATOM Z3735 and it is only support 2GB DDR memory by the CPU. So it can not add more RAM on that.

Dear Qiu Hongyun,

Thank you for your explanation. Now it's clear that it is a CPU limitation to map more memory.

For remote observatories or telescope setups that used The SkyX + CCDAutopilot (or MaxPilot or Voyager) ...   the memory can become short.

Do you foresee for this year of 2018, any Astrobar 2 in the horizon?

If yes, why not to integrate with it as well some controllers like the dew controller (minimum 3 ports) and the focuser controller (or even flats controller or dome controller with the help of a small relay) and at least one USB 3 port  for the lovers of planetary shoots (minimum 6 USB ports).

I hope to see a reply from you soon.

 Kind regards,
 Joao Vaz Martins
